O Grave, Where is Thy Victory?

“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8 displays the immense power of the cross! Man is sinful, and tries at every moment to disobey and displease God. From the very start sin entered the world.
But Jesus came to seek and save the lost, the sinners, the brokenhearted, the helpless. He died on the cross and took all the blame of our sins on Himself. No other man who lived could fulfill God’s promise, because Jesus is the one, perfect, spotless sacrifice. He died for you. He put everything on Himself, because He loves you.

I know right now it’s the Christmas season and we’re preparing to celebrate Jesus’ birth, but think about it. If He was never born, He would have never died on the cross and be able to defeat death!

Let’s read the resurrection story in Luke 24:1-7.

“Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.
And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre.
And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus.
And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments:
And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead?
He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee,
Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.”

If Christ had never been raised from the dead, our salvation would be nothing. But He did, and that is why the message of the Cross is so powerful.

Praise Christ for He has defeated death! We are now alive in Him. “O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Corinthians 15:55-57
